Morse Code for Pilots

Confirming the identity of a NavAid is essential to safe navigation, especially when flying IFR.  Many pilots compare the morse code they hear to the dashes and dots printed on the chart.  This can be dangerous because it takes the pilot's attention off flying the airplane. A better way to confirm NavAids is to learn enough morse code to eliminate the need for the printed dashes and dots.  Pilots do not need to understand random characters of morse code.  They do need to understand morse code enough to compare morse code to an expected identifier. The morse code tutor trains the pilot to confirm the morse code heard is the identifier expected.  No dashes or dots, just easily remembered phrases. This off-line tutor uses the same principles as the morse code lesson in the Pilot Tutor.  With the off-line tutor, the user can customize the phrases to anything that works for them.  It also allows the user to practice with random identifiers, or identifiers they frequently encounter in their flights. After a short time of practicing with Morse Code for Pilots, the user will be able to listen to any morse code identifier and confirm it is the identifier of the NavAid they intended to use.  The pilot doesn't need to look down to the printed morse code.  They only look down long enough to read the identifier of the NavAid, then sit back and listen to the morse code transmitted by the NavAid.  After hearing the morse code, the pilot can be sure they have tuned to the correct frequency.
